Margaritas has become an institution in
Portsmouth since it's opening in 1991. It is one of the busiest and
most talked about restaurants in a very competitive dining
community. It's family friendly atmosphere and welcoming, accommodating
staff are two of the many reasons Margaritas is a very popular seacoast
destination.
The dining room, lounge and patio are
filled with brightly colored artwork and furniture. The raised ceilings
offer a light, airy feel to the interior spaces, with lots of signature folk art elements and
artwork. Everywhere you
look you'll see color and style that can only be described as
breathtaking. The windows are much large, offering far a lot of natural light, and all of the tables are either hand-made tile-tops
or hand carved works of art.
Both the dining room and lounge areas are
filled with colorfully painted, ceramic birds and animals, and many
examples of clay and papier-mâché pots, vases and other striking Mexican
images.
Margaritas in Portsmouth is located on US Route One at the
Lafayette Shopping Center, a popular shopping area that also houses
Kinko's Copy Center, Pier One Imports and Ethan Allen Furniture. A
bright Mexican yellow and blue exterior color scheme attracts a
great deal of attention to the 5,500 square foot restaurant, which
features an equally colorful interior. The restaurant seats 120 in
its dining room, 80 people in its lounge and has the seasonal
capacity to accommodate another 50 people on its outdoor patio that
serves a full food and drink menu.
Portsmouth is a popular tourist destination with consistent
year-round business. The restaurant draws from a
mix of tourists, local residents and professionals, as well as from
the traffic from nearby I-95 and Route 1. In addition, the restaurant
is quite popular with employees of the neighboring Liberty Mutual offices,
Portsmouth Regional Hospital and the
students at the University of New Hampshire and New Hampshire
College.
