Margaritas Field Trips
Field Trips to our culturally-rich restaurants are a valuable educational experience for local students and their teachers. They take place at a Margaritas restaurant usually between 10am and 12pm. Upon arrival, the group is treated to a 40-minute lecture on contemporary Mexican daily life with supporting video, a guided tour of the restaurant, as well as a food demonstration and traditional dining experience. A study guide provides material to further educate the groups with follow-up activities for later classroom discussion.
Field Trip Activities
This program, geared toward junior high and high school students, begins with a DVD presentation showing scenes from our various trips to Mexico. It includes visits to artists and craft workshops, markets, street scenes, ancient ruins and mariachis from around the country. We give the students the chance to see Mexico today; its people, it’s tradition and it’s art. The presentation is designed to be interactive, providing various perspectives of the Mexican way of life, illuminating the unique and fascinating characteristics of a grand Mexican culture. Ultimately, students will cultivate a better understanding of contempory Mexican.
The students are then taken on a tour of the restaurant to see a variety of folk art and decor. Students will have an opportunity to see and touch examples of the artwork they saw in the presentation, allowing them to gain a greater appreciation of the culture by seeing and touching the art.
Next we demonstrate how we make fresh guacamole and salsa casera by hand. The students see each ingredient and the step-by-step process in preparing these two wonderful Mexican side dishes. Students are offered a sample of each to add to their Mexican-style meal which includes fresh made enchiladas, rice and beans and a sweet dessert treat.
To complete the experience, we present a small token to the class; a piece of authentic Mexican art to display in their classroom as a visual reminder of their trip to Margaritas and their Mexico adventure.
Our Field Trips are a learning experience enjoyed by all. Our goal is to give local students a unique, hands-on opportunity to experience the vibrant Mexican culture using all senses.
